Does it make more sense to drive blind, or drive blind with someone who can see? It is easy to make decisions when seeing; however, the future is invisible to us. The point being that you have to see to know the whole truth, and naturally as human beings we have a mindset that we can control everything, including the future.

                Pastor Eric also addressed these questions:

How do you view God and life? Is God in your world, or are you in his?

                Proverbs 16:1 says, “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.” From this we can understand that man can plan his own life but the fact remains that God gets the last word.

                Proverbs 16:2-3 says that God knows our heart, and by committing our lives to him, he will establish our steps. Living in a place where God is in our world is prideful. Eric also stated that the person who plans their own life is arrogant. God will deal with our pride and arrogance and humble us. Isaiah 47:11 says only God can save us from our wrath. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves from hell. It is only by God’s mercy and grace. Eric closed by saying, the most humbling act is to give up control. To submit.

What do you hate? Braden (Eric’s son) hates naps. Eric hates how some men do not provide for their family. He also hates when someone doesn’t do something only because “I don’t feel like it.” They believe their feelings dictate their ‘truth,’ which is extremely prideful; “I am the master and I feel like it should be.”

Proverbs 16:5 says that “Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished.” Proverbs 16:18-19 : “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.”

 Our pride tries to push God off His throne. We think we know more and that we can do better and we try to change who God is. We try to make him not all-powerful or not all-knowing.

 Eric’s mother, a good woman, remarried but the man soon left her. Eric had to wrestle, asking God, “Why would you let this happen? Why does she deserve this?” First of all, did God want that to happen? Also, does God control us like robots?

 When life doesn’t make sense, don’t change God to try and make sense of it. Rather, wrestle, pray.

 In Job 40 and Isaiah, God declares that ‘I, God, know everything and have created all and you cannot comprehend me.’

 We also often take credit for our abilities, beauty, and glory. But did we bring these about? God did, not us. Our pride tries to snatch glory from God. One of my favorite songs says “We are a vapor, You are eternal.” Let us be humble and ask God and others for help so we may become like children spiritually (Matthew 18:1-6). The actual sermon goes way deeper; I entreat you to listen to the truth.
