God becomes real in brokenness
In Eric’s past two sermons we talked about brokenness and how sin causes us to need Jesus. This week he wrapped it all up with the concept that God becomes real in our brokenness! This is so true. When you still believe in God in your broken moments he becomes so much more real in your life! And as God becomes real in our life we become a light in the darkness to those around us, Christians and non-Christians alike. When we are blessed with this ability it is such a shame to see how easily we push it off to the side because we think we are better than the non-Christians. We do that because we give ourselves value.
We tell ourselves that we don’t need God because we already have everything we need in this world. Then when that is taken away from us we begin to question if there really is a God. In 2 Corinthians 12: 9 it says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness.” By reading that verse you can tell that God did not do anything to you out of hatred or try to cause a separation between you and Him, he simply reminded you that he is the only and most powerful God. When we don’t think we need God we will become broken and Gods power will be displayed. So pray for the strength to rejoice in hardships and trials because the Lord is doing some crazy things in your life. We may not always understand them but God has a plan for everyone. Pray for wisdom, that we may have the knowledge to realize how small we are compared to the Creator. And finally pray for brokenness. Pray that God will reveal his power to you everyday so we may humble ourselves before the God of the universe that desires a relationship with us, even though we are undeserving…

Eric introduced buddy Jesus. The false idea is that we might take Jesus with us everywhere, but we are very quick to forget or leave him behind. We make Jesus just a convenience. Whenever we want or need something, that’s when we talk to him. When things are good in life, we think it is because of us, like we run the show or something. But when life gets tough, we cry out to him. We tend to look at sin through man’s eyes and not Gods. Our heart has to be right to have a relationship with Christ. We have to realize we are sinners.
Has Christianity become just a chore? Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and loving us unconditionally should bring us a great joy. So why do we not choose to abide? We don’t always choose to abide because we think we can control our life with our own understanding. Typically, when we sin, we go to God thinking if we read our Bible or go to church, it will make up for sinning. We don’t get to bargain with God, it just doesn’t work that way. True brokenness is needing God so bad, we realize we can’t do anything without him. John 15:4 says, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” Apart from God, we can do nothing. We value brokenness because we want to be as close to Jesus as possible. What is it going to take to make us realize our sin, so that we fully abide in God? To make us so broken, we are on our knees before him, because he loved us so much that he replaced our sin with his blood.
